July 23, 2009

So my friend Sara made me a really cool apron last week and it inspired me to buckle down and learn how to work a sewing machine. We spent a whole day sewing like crazy. I bought the same fabric as my apron and made a matching tablecloth and matching apron for Rhiannon. I also made a hooded bath towel for Brad and a shopping bag made from a plastic shopping bag as a template. It was a long and busy day but I was incredibly satisfied at the end of it all having created such beautiful items for our home and kids.

Our Little Potty Trainer
With His Own Sense of Style

The other day was Brad's quarterly eye checkup. I went into this visit feeling really confident that almost two years after surgery his eyes are doing well as I haven't really noticed either eye straying, save for a few random moments when he is overly tired. Well I am no expert and as it turns out, his right eye is apparently starting to get a little lazy. So we have to do patching therapy every day for three hours for the next two months. We are only three days in and let me tell you how that's going... He is ripping through 3 and 4 eye patches in a three hour period. He just refuses to keep them on. I am incredibly frustrated and don't know how I am going to make it through these next few months on top of the potty training (which generally involves me cleaning up poop from underwear, floors, toys etc.) and pacifier withdrawals. I feel so bad for him having to go through this but I know it's all for the best so he can have the best vision possible when he is older. He has such beautiful eyes too. It would be a shame to have him end up in glasses or with a permanent lazy eye, especially when he had such success at the beginning and this can all be fixed with his cooperation. If anyone has any suggestions on how I can get him to keep these blasted "eye stickers" as we call them on, please enlighten me!

Last weekend Jim took a last minute trip to the Tour de France! I don't have much of a story except to say that he said the riders all whizzed by him in about 30 seconds. He and a friend went to see the end of one of the stages of the race in the the village of Besancon, France. They got some great pictures, rode their bikes along the route and even though all the people packed up and went home when it was over, it still seems worth the trip because really, when else can we say "Hey, let's go to the Tour de France this weekend!" Even thought I didn't go this time, I love that we have all of these opportunities, especially to see a beautiful little town that Jim said he otherwise would never have thought to visit!
